What is a LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations)?
LOLER is one of the most important regulations to be aware of when heavy lifting equipment is involved. These regulations ensure lifting equipment is safe to use, are properly maintained and used in the correct manner to avoid accidents and injuries.
A LOLER testing inspection has been required since 1998 enacted in the UK under the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) framework.
Do I need a LOLER?
If you have lifting equipment such as a Tail Lift mounted on a vehicle you will need to have it inspected every 6 months under LOLER regulations. This is known as an STE. (Statutory Thorough Inspection)
LOLER requires that lifting equipment be thoroughly examined at regular intervals (6 or 12 months depending on the equipment in question). A qualified person must conduct this inspection to ensure that equipment is safe to use. If the equipment is found to be unsafe, it must be repaired or replaced before use.
How often do you need a LOLER test?
What is required every 6 months;
Lifting equipment that carries people
All lifting accessories
What is required every 12 months;
All other lifting equipment ( cranes, fork lift trucks, battery pallet trucks etc)
